Sports

Playing sports is fun. It gives you good learning skills like hand eye coordination to hit the ball with a hockey stick, swimming with the ball, throwing the ball with only one hand into targets, passing the ball backwards and dodging people, passing the ball to others so that they can catch it whilst moving.
Room 2 people play lots of sports such as: touch, soccer, netball, flipper ball, hockey, rugby, swimming, dancing, gymnastics and athletics.
If we do exercise we get fitter and we stay healthy.

Killer Whales

Killer Whales or Orca Whales belong to the family of sea animals in particular the dolphin family.
An Orca is easily recognised by its black and white skin colour. It has a long streamlined body for gliding through the water. An Orca has a large, black dorsal fin. The dorsal fin keeps the whale balanced in the water. Male Orcas grow up to eight or nine metres long and the female grows up to seven metres. The male is called a bull, the female is called a cow and the babies are called calves. The other features of the Orca are two eyes, tail and a mouth, which has big sharp teeth.

The Orca or Killer Whale lives around Canada in the cold Arctic Ocean. They also live in the cold Antarctic Ocean.

The Orca eats penguins, seals, dolphins, and other whales. This whale is a carnivore. They swim around hunting for food, killing it and then eating it. They also swim and jump up in the water just for fun. Killer Whales or Orcas live in groups called pods.

Did you know that the Killer Whale has its own language? It can talk to the other whales in the pod. I think they are a very intelligent animal.

Running Challenges At Waianiwa

It was a sunny day when we all excitedly climbed on the bus at the school gate. Once aboard we sat down and as soon as we were all in our seats the doors closed and Z O O M we were off to the cross country course at Waianiwa. To pass the time on the way there we sang songs with Mrs R, Miss McGinnis and Mrs Cowan. Soon the bus began to slow down and it stopped in the car park. We were given our instructions and then we were allowed to get off the bus. There were children, mums, dads, babies in prams, granddads and grandmas all walking through the gate and across the paddock. We all lined up and nervously waited for the signal to move to the starting line. At the starting line we looked down the track and listened for horn to start. H O N K and we were off. We had an adult running in front of us so we didn't go in the wrong direction. Jumping off hay bales, skipping over the cow pats, squishing through the mud and struggling to get down the bank to the finish line without falling over went lots of children. There were a lot off children who were breathing hard, thirsty, tired, puffed and hungry once they had passed the finish line. We were very proud of ourselves because we had all tried our best. Can you think of a new fun way to encourage people to wash their hands?
Would you have different smelling soaps?
Can you think of some funky shaped containers you could use?
